About Us

In 2003, an idea was created to help inner-city communities and and children by providing clean and safe environments to play.

This idea is called Project Playground.

The concept of Project Playground is fairly simple; take an existing run-down, inner-city playground and perform general clean up and maintenance on it.

The Project came about one day during a drive down Gratiot Ave. in Detroit, MI.  When stopping at the traffic light on the corner of Gratiot and Warren Avenues, it was clear the park that occupied that intersection (Dueweke Park) was in very bad condition.  The basketball court looked as if had not been used in months, the play structures were overcome with rust, graffiti was abundant and there was garbage everywhere.  It was that moment that provided the inspiration for Project Playground.

Ten years later, with the help of national and local media attention, the Adcraft PM committee and a several hundred wonderful volunteers, Project Playground has revitalized 10 inner-city playgrounds in the Detroit area.  Without the tremendous work from these volunteers and organizations Project Playground would not exist.

In 2009, Project Playground became an official 501(c)3 non-profit organization.

Project Playground continues to search for run-down, inner-city parks every year in the city of Detroit and is currently looking to expand into other cities that need help.  If you have questions or know of a park in need of help, please contact us.

Giving kids a safe place to play only takes a day.
